"Ghūl"

Davis had never seen a woman eat like Samantha, tearing through double helpings while opining about horror movies. There wouldn't be another date on his dime.

"Old standards aren't scary," she said, touching his hand. "Zombies take brains -- after you're dead."

Davis toyed with tasteless tiramisu.

"Vampires? Please." She stroked his fingers.

Davis blinked. The maître d' must've dimmed the lights.

"But ghouls steal your senses." She slid her palm up his arm, numbness blooming across Davis' body. "Now that's scary."

Her voice came so close she must've pressed her lips to his ear. But afterward Davis heard nothing whatsoever.

I'm reminded a bit of Gaiman's free Halloween audio fiction of last year. Definitely like.
