The burger concept -- the most successful food idea since mother's milk -- does not need to be improved with culinary finesse and luxury ingredients. If you're not content to eat a great burger made from average ingredients on a normal bun, you've missed the point. Are you French?

If I remember correctly (and that's a big if), the author was making fun of all the American chefs who were experimenting with foie gras and similar stuff on burgers. Also, part of my family has French roots and it's fun to needle them from time to time. That is, assuming they're reading this ...
