Delightful News Indeed!

Well, I received some very pleasant news a few days ago: My flash-fiction piece "Thirty-One Hundred" is going to be included in the tentatively titled anthology Discount Noir from ebook publisher Untreed Reads. Read all about the collection here. Seems the volume will be released sometime in the next four to six weeks. Many thanks to Patti Abbott of pattinase who inspired the entire enterprise through her blog contest and Stacia Decker of the Donald Maass Literary Agency for her hard work in shopping the anthology around!

Thanks, Nevets!

I love the cat, too. That's pretty much my expression when I get good writing news.

Just wanted to publicly apologize to Loren for not getting the spelling right on the first name when we did the first announcement. Rest assured, we'll get it right in the final ebook!

Is that a cool and classy editor or what?

That's awesome!

(The cat is vaguely irritated, though, not pleased; that's an angry/startled kitty face. Mind you, cats tend to dislike surprises in general.)

CR,

Gracias, sir!

Jay,

No problem at all! I'm sorry to even bring it up, but I did want to make sure it would come out right in the manuscript. Thanks so much for following up!

Patti,

A truly classy editor, indeed! I love it.

Loren Eaton said...

SC,

I think so, too!

I was using the kitty for the "surprised" reaction. Didn't know the feline was displeased, too. Might have to rethink the graphic.

Congrats, Loren. I'm thrilled to have a story in the collection as well. Can't wait to see the anthology!

Me, too, Kathleen! It looks like a great group of authors, and I feel very fortunate to have been included.

FWIW and totally off-topic, but your best indicator of kitty mood is the ears. Ears forward is generally positive and interested, ears flat back is scared, and ears rotating back and forth (as that cat's are) indicate startlement shading to anger. (Ears wavering is actually more dangerous than ears flat back because they're more unpredictable. Kitty might decide it's all okay or might decide it's time to bring the hurt, and ears up is generally more aggressive than ears down, which is a bit more prone to submission and fleeing.) Lashing tails are more well-known signs of feline anger, but the tail isn't as reliable a sign of mood as the ears.

Ironically, we had a fair number of cats on the farm where I grew up, but they were all outdoors munching on mice, so I never spent a lot of time observing them.

Sweet! Well done, Loren. That is great news.

Loren Eaton said...

Thanks, S.D.! I'm rather thrilled with the news.

You should get Rothfuss to do a cover blurb!

“The Way of Kings is a tour-de-force. Luminously meretricious, yet with a round oaky underbite, this book offers notes of toffee and broam with just a hint of having someone’s nephew hit you in the groin with a tennis ball. Best served with fish.”

CR,

That's hilarious. I'm definitely going to need to read some of his stuff.

Michelle,

Thank you! I'm rather chuffed (to get all British) about it.
